Running

Day 2

Day 2 went well. 2km at a nippy pace. Wanted to keep the momentum going by logging a run, even if it was a shorter one. I’ve got football tomorrow night, so didn’t want to have sore legs for that. I think I’ll go shopping for new running shoes soon. Mine are geared for Tough Mudder/ obstacle races, and I want something less grippy and lighter for running on pavements and roads. Exciting to be back in the right mindset for it all again. Also, it was back to work today, strangely I feel very happy about that. I kind of struggled with the break in routine towards the end of December. I think maybe that’s why the idea of incorporating running into my routine feels so appealing right now.

“New Year, New Me”

Yeah, I wouldn’t believe it either.  but I laced up my trainers today after a 2+ month break, and recorded a sub-30 minute 5k. I’m super thrilled with that as a starting point and look forward to pushing myself further in 2025.  As for “why now?” when I already rebooted this website once in October, and then vanished immediately after making a commitment to take this seriously. Well, two things: Firstly, I had a last minute cancellation vasectomy when I expected to be on the waiting list for a couple of years, and needed some recovery time after that. Secondly, two children are hard work to juggle alongside all the festive commitments to see friends and family. I’ve been working flat out in recent months to keep everything in order, including getting to grips with “The Terrible Twos” (which have come early!), and sometimes you have to prioritise stability over adventurous goals. As we enter 2025, I feel the time is right to make a re-commitment to myself & my family, to be the best version of myself that I can be, and do everything within my power to be fit and healthy for many years to come. I also want to book some holidays, and I’m afraid they might have mirrors in the hotel rooms.
